Home - Journeys - Thailand 2023, November, December - Thursday, December 21, 2023

We had a reasonable night's sleep at the Royal Pavilion in Hua Hin.
The breakfast is reasonable, Thai dishes and bread with jam as a topping. Furthermore, plenty of fruit and vegetables and of course eggs. Unfortunately the coffee isn't that great.

Pia wants to go to Wat Tham Khao Tao, วัดถ้ำเขาเต่า, a temple south of Hua Hin and we both want to go to Market Village, a large shopping center, because Tom doesn't have enough clothes with him.

Wat Tham Khao Tao is a temple in an unclear style, a bit Thai, a bit Chinese on a rock that extends into the sea, with very limited parking. It is fun to look here, but it is also quite messy, a lot of people come.
There is a lot of wind today, and there are strong waves, unusual for Thailand.
As we drive away, Pia smells trassi, and it turns out there are people living there, or working alone, who make and sell trassi themselves. We bring a kilo and also a kind of zucchini.

In Market Vilage, when we drive to the parking lot, it is quite busy, but we easily find a parking space. We look around and find not one but four polo shirts for Tom and also some underwear. Pia is looking for a swimsuit but she doesn't find anything she likes.
We eat something at a restaurant where they sell Vietnamese and Isaan dishes, it tastes good.
Then we go to the bottom floor where there are all kinds of small shops, looking for a bath brush. We don't find what we are looking for, but we do find something that looks similar and we take that with us.

We take the purchases to the hotel and walk through Thanon Narasdarmi again looking for a place to have a drink, the wind is still quite strong. We sit at Sea Side Restaurant Hua-Hin, which is built above the beach. We order something to drink, and at some point there is some commotion. There's a black tomcat walking around who just jumps on chairs and isn't afraid of people at all. But some people are afraid of a small cat. And of course the tomcat jumps right there on the chair.

There is too much wind along the coast to eat well, so we go to the night market. Contrary to our habit, we sit at a tourist restaurant, Hua Hin Bird Chili at Night Market, where we order grilled kang and medium-sized shrimp, and it tastes better than expected. And we are not chased away if we order something to drink after dinner.

After dinner, just like yesterday, we go to the Railway Restaurant opposite for a nightcap. And just like yesterday, a rat comes along again.
